Collinge & Co Training acknowledges its duty of care to safeguard and promote the welfare of learners. We are committed to ensuring safeguarding practices reflect statutory responsibilities, government guidance and are in line with Ofsted requirements.
This policy recognises that the welfare of learners is paramount in all circumstances. It aims to ensure that regardless of age, size, ethnicity, disability, gender, language, religious beliefs, sexual identity and/or socio-economic background have the right to protection from abuse.
It is vital that all adults working with children and young people understand that the nature of their work and responsibilities related to it, place them in a position of trust. Staff working in education settings have a crucial role to play in shaping the lives of children and young people. They have a unique opportunity to interact with children and young people in ways that are both affirming and inspiring. This policy provides clear advice on appropriate and safe behaviours for all adults working with children and young people within Collinge & Co Training and aims to reduce the risk of adults working with learners being falsely accused of improper or unprofessional conduct.

Aims:
- Learners have a positive and enjoyable experience of hairdressing at Collinge & Co Training in a safe, learner centred environment.
- Learners are protected from harassment, violence and or abuse whilst participating in apprenticeship or any other training, either on-site or by virtual means, at Collinge & Co Training centre’s or at their employer’s place of work.
- Learners are provided with information, advice and guidance on British values and how to protect themselves from radicalisation or extremist views.
- Learners, employers and staff are aware of the importance of Safeguarding and Prevent and it is promoted throughout training delivery.
- Collinge & Co Training Designated Safeguarding Team retains a strong and accurate profile of risks associated with training and understands when and how to refer relevant issues.
- Collinge & Co Training Board members maintain strong oversight and knowledge of safeguarding/ Prevent and effectively hold leaders to account.
Objectives:
- Promote and prioritise the safety and wellbeing of learners in all areas of delivery inc. e-safety.
- Keep children and young people safe by clarifying which behaviours constitute safe practice and which behaviours should be avoided.
- Adopt relevant and appropriate filtering and monitoring process to reasonably limit children’s exposure to risks presented within IT systems.
- Assist staff working with children and young people to work safely and responsibly and to monitor their own standards and practice.
- Set clear expectations of behaviour and/or codes of practice.

- Give a clear message that unlawful or unsafe behaviour is unacceptable and that, where appropriate, disciplinary or legal action will be taken.
- Minimise the risk of misplaced or malicious allegations made against staff who work with learners.
